Ami Bera, M.D., a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 6th district since 2013, has recently posted several statements on his official social media account addressing national events and personal reflections.

On January 3, 2026, Bera commented on a recent government briefing, stating, “I was also at this briefing. Senator Shaheen is accurate and correct. We were misled by Administration officials.”

Three days later, on January 6, 2026, Bera expressed condolences regarding the death of a colleague: “I am saddened to learn of the passing of Congressman Doug LaMalfa. Doug and I were both first elected in 2012 and shared a weekly commute between Sacramento and D.C. While our politics didn’t always align, he was a good man who cared about his constituents. Janine and I are”

Later that same day, Bera reflected on the anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol: “Five years ago today, a violent mob stormed the United States Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of a free and fair election and stop the peaceful transfer of power. I will forever be grateful to the brave Capitol Police officers who defended our democracy during one”

Ami Bera has served as the representative for California’s 6th district since defeating Dan Lungren in 2012. He was born in Los Angeles in 1965 and currently resides in Elk Grove. Bera graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1987.
