Ami Bera, M.D., a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 6th district since 2013, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing key national issues including Federal Reserve independence, public media funding, and calls for transparency from the White House.
On July 16, 2025, Bera expressed concerns regarding potential political interference in the Federal Reserve, stating: “The Federal Reserve must remain independent from political pressure. Firing Jerome Powell to install a loyalist would be a reckless decision that carries enormous consequences for our economy.”
Later that day, Bera called on the President to increase transparency by releasing unspecified information: “Mr. President, release the list.” (July 16, 2025).
On July 17, 2025, Bera voiced opposition to proposed reductions in public media funding. He highlighted the role of local stations in providing reliable news and committed to voting against related legislation: “I strongly oppose cuts to public media. Publicly funded stations like Capital Public Radio in Sacramento provide reliable live news and information to Sacramento County residents. I will be voting NO on this harmful legislation.”
Bera has served as the representative for California’s 6th District since succeeding Dan Lungren in 2013. Born in Los Angeles in 1965 and currently residing in Elk Grove, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Irvine.
