Ami Bera, M.D., U.S. Congressman representing California’s 6th district since 2013, addressed recent national events and public health concerns in a series of posts on his official Twitter account.
On August 27, 2025, Bera responded to news of a violent incident, stating, “Janine and I are heartbroken and angered by today’s mass shooting in Minneapolis. Schools should be safe places where kids can learn and grow. Parents should never have to worry about whether their child will come home at the end of the day. Our hearts are with the victims,” highlighting concerns over school safety following the reported shooting.
In another post dated August 28, 2025, Bera commented on developments involving Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and public health leadership: “This is a chilling statement. RFK Jr. is driving out dedicated public health experts because they refuse to rubber-stamp his dangerous views on vaccines. These experts are our first line of defense against outbreaks and emerging threats. Their resignations make clear that they”. The congressman criticized actions he believes undermine the expertise needed to address public health challenges.
Later that same day, Bera addressed vaccine policy and scientific standards: “ACIP has been the gold standard on vaccine guidance for over 60 years. Their work must be guided by data and evidence — not ideology. We must protect the integrity of this process and ensure these critical decisions remain rooted in science.” His comments underscored support for evidence-based decision-making in public health.
Bera was born in Los Angeles in 1965 and currently resides in Elk Grove. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Irvine in 1987.
