Ami Bera, M.D., a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 6th district since 2013, has recently addressed several national issues on his social media account. His posts discuss the deployment of National Guard troops, marriage equality legislation, and economic policy under former President Donald Trump.
On August 11, 2025, Bera criticized the use of federal troops in major cities: “When President Trump deployed National Guard troops into LA, I said he was doing so to inflame tensions and provoke a response to justify further crackdowns. That’s exactly what he’s doing now in DC. Crime is a serious concern. Sending in the National Guard is not the answer.”
The following day, August 12, Bera reiterated his support for marriage equality and highlighted his vote for federal protections: “I will always fight to defend marriage equality from extreme attacks. That’s why I proudly voted for the Respect for Marriage Act in 2022, which was signed into law by President Biden. The Respect for Marriage Act includes federal protections to ensure that no married LGBTQ+ or”
Later on August 12, Bera commented on former President Trump’s economic policies: “Donald Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ is driving a major transfer of wealth from the poorest Americans to the richest. This is not what supporting working families looks like.”
Ami Bera has served as a member of Congress since replacing Dan Lungren in 2013 and represents constituents from California’s 6th district. Born in Los Angeles in 1965 and currently residing in Elk Grove, Bera graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1987.
