Ami Bera, M.D., U.S. Congressman representing California’s 6th district since 2013, recently used his social media platform to address concerns over U.S. trade policy and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
On July 24, 2025, Bera announced a joint op-ed with Rep. Diana DeGette for The Japan Times, writing: “NEW: @RepDianaDeGette and I wrote an op-ed for @thejapantimes on how Trump’s tariffs undermine America’s businesses, security, and credibility on the world stage. He followed this post with another tweet linking directly to their editorial: “https://t.co/2BIJCl1TSt”.
The following day, Bera turned attention to international humanitarian issues by posting: “The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire. There is widespread starvation and the crisis is worsening with each passing day. This level of human suffering is unacceptable and demands urgent action.

Bera has served as a member of Congress since replacing Dan Lungren in 2013. Born in Los Angeles in 1965 and currently residing in Elk Grove, he graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
