Ami Bera, M.D., a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 6th district since 2013, has been vocal on social media about recent political actions. His posts focus on issues concerning federal decisions impacting California and its residents.
On June 8, 2025, Bera criticized President Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles without the consent of Governor Newsom. He described this move as a “dangerous escalation” and noted that both Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass had stated there was no unmet need for such action. According to Bera, “this is not about restoring order” but rather about the administration’s motives.
In another post dated June 9, 2025, Bera addressed proposed cuts to food assistance by President Trump and Congressional Republicans. He expressed concern that these cuts would adversely affect families in Sacramento County who are already struggling financially. Bera assured his constituents that he would continue to oppose this legislation, stating “I’ll keep fighting to stop this harmful bill.”
On June 10, 2025, Bera emphasized the importance of protecting the right to peacefully protest. He acknowledged the thousands of people from Sacramento to Los Angeles exercising their First Amendment rights in response to actions by the Trump Administration that are perceived as harmful to immigrant communities. He affirmed that “the right to peacefully protest must be protected.”
Ami Bera has been serving in Congress since replacing Dan Lungren in 2013. Born in Los Angeles in 1965 and currently residing in Elk Grove, he graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a BS degree in 1987.
