Ami Bera, M.D., a current member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 6th district since 2013, shared several messages on social media reflecting on historical events and contemporary issues. Bera has been an active voice in various societal matters, and his recent tweets highlight his commitment to honoring historical sacrifices, raising awareness about gun violence, and supporting labor rights.
On June 6, 2025, Bera commemorated the anniversary of D-Day with a tweet recognizing the bravery of American and Allied forces during World War II. He stated: “81 years ago today, American and Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe from Nazi tyranny.” He further honored individuals from Sacramento who participated in this historic event: Bill Maynard, Guerdon Walthall, and Thomas Pinon.
Later that day, Bera addressed National Gun Violence Awareness Day through another tweet. He expressed his commitment to combating gun violence by stating: “On National Gun Violence Awareness Day, I #WearOrange to honor those we’ve lost to gun violence and raise awareness about the commonsense steps we can take to protect our kids and prevent future tragedies.” This message underscores his advocacy for measures aimed at preventing gun-related incidents.
The following day on June 7, 2025, Bera voiced concern over an incident involving David Huerta. In his post he wrote: “David Huerta has long stood up for working people and immigrant families across California. His violent detention while exercising his constitutional rights is deeply troubling. I stand with David and @seiucalifornia in demanding answers and accountability.” This statement reflects Bera’s support for labor rights activists and calls for accountability regarding Huerta’s detention.
Ami Bera was born in Los Angeles in 1965 and currently resides in Elk Grove. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Irvine obtained in 1987.
