Ami Bera, M.D., a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 6th district since 2013, has used his social media platform to address issues ranging from immigration enforcement practices to the anniversary of major federal health programs and internship opportunities for constituents.
On July 30, 2025, Bera addressed concerns about racial profiling by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, stating: “We’ve seen masked ICE agents randomly approach people who look like me. That’s racial profiling — and it is unacceptable. That’s why I’m co-sponsoring a bill that would ban ICE agents from wearing masks and require them to display clear identification during immigration raids.”
Later that day, he marked a milestone for government healthcare programs in another post: “Today marks the 60th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid. As a doctor, I’ve seen firsthand how these programs have helped millions of hardworking families, children, and seniors get the care they need. That’s why I strongly opposed—and voted against—the bill passed by” The tweet reflects Bera’s background as a physician and his continued advocacy for public health initiatives.
On July 31, 2025, Bera encouraged Sacramento County residents interested in public service to apply for internships with his office: “Interested in public service and helping make government work for Sacramento County? The deadline to apply for fall internships in my Washington, DC and Sacramento offices is tomorrow at 2 PM PT! Apply here https://t.co/7268etiCcQ”
Bera has served as the congressional representative for California’s 6th District since replacing Dan Lungren in 2013. Born in Los Angeles in 1965, he currently resides in Elk Grove and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Irvine (1987).
