Ami Bera, M.D., a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 6th district since 2013, has recently posted a series of tweets questioning the actions of House Speaker Mike Johnson and former President Donald Trump regarding the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

On July 23, 2025, Bera wrote: “Speaker Johnson is so afraid of Donald Trump that he’s sending us home early instead of letting us vote on releasing the Epstein files. The American people deserve to know what is in these files. What are Donald Trump and Mike Johnson trying to hide?”

Later that day, he added: “President Trump can exonerate himself by releasing the Epstein files. What does he have to hide?”

In a separate tweet on July 24, 2025, Bera thanked participants in an event at the California State Fair: “I want to thank everyone who participated in the First Annual HERO Act Chili Cook-Off at the California State Fair! Firefighters from across California are competing against one another to see who makes the best chili and to raise awareness about the HERO Act— a bill I wrote to”

Bera has served as a member of Congress for over a decade after replacing Dan Lungren in 2013. Born in Los Angeles in 1965, he currently resides in Elk Grove and graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a BS degree in 1987.
