The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 in Game 6 of the Western Conference First Round at Honda Center on May 1, eliminating the Oilers from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The victory marks the first time since 2017 that the Ducks have advanced past a playoff series. The team will next face either the Vegas Golden Knights or Utah Mammoth in the second round, with Vegas currently leading that series.

Leo Carlsson, Troy Terry, and Chris Kreider each recorded a goal and two assists for Anaheim. Cutter Gauthier contributed a goal and an assist, while goaltender Lukas Dostal made 25 saves. For Edmonton, Connor Murphy and Vasily Podkolzin scored goals, and Connor Ingram stopped 26 shots.

The Ducks took an early lead when John Carlson’s shot deflected off multiple players before crossing into the net. Carlsson later assisted Kreider on a one-timer to make it 2-0. Although Murphy responded for Edmonton to narrow the gap to one goal, Anaheim extended its lead with Gauthier’s power-play score before Terry added another late in the second period.

Edmonton managed to reduce Anaheim’s advantage to two goals early in the third period through Podkolzin but could not close further. Carlsson sealed the win with an empty-net goal late in regulation.

With this win, Anaheim moves forward in pursuit of their first Stanley Cup since their last deep playoff run.
