Congressman Brad Sherman, who represents California’s 32nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on July 23, 2025, addressing legislative efforts and criticizing recent actions by the Trump Administration regarding humanitarian aid.
In his first post at 17:29 UTC, Sherman announced ongoing legislative work: “Happening Now: I’m leading a Congressional briefing on my bill, the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act. Watch a livestream of the briefing https://t.co/Ok8I1Fi5uH”.
Later that day at 23:42 UTC, Sherman criticized decisions made under former President Donald Trump’s administration related to foreign aid and public health resources. He wrote: “The Trump Administration is literally burning U.S. taxpayer dollars that were meant to be spent saving lives. Last week, it was burning 500 tons of emergency food aid. This week, it’s letting 800,000 doses of the Mpox vaccine go to waste. All because they dismantled USAID.”
At 23:47 UTC on July 23, Sherman addressed claims made by officials defending the administration’s restructuring of USAID (United States Agency for International Development). He stated: “Secretary Rubio claimed ‘no one has died’ because of the dismantling of USAID. Deputy Secretary Rigas repeated that claim, and now Under Secretary Hooker continues to stand by that claim. It is a lie. Thousands, like 5-year-old Evan Anzoo, have died because of Donald Trump and”.
Brad Sherman has served in Congress since replacing Anthony Beilenson in 1997 and currently resides in Sherman Oaks after being born in Los Angeles in 1954. He holds degrees from UCLA and Harvard University.
USAID has played a central role in distributing humanitarian assistance globally; changes or reductions to its programs have historically prompted debate over their impact on vulnerable populations.
