Congressman Brad Sherman, who has represented California’s 32nd district in the U.S. Congress since 1997, reflected on significant events affecting both the nation and his local community in a series of tweets posted on January 6 and 7, 2026.
On January 6, Sherman marked the fifth anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol by stating, “Five years ago today, our democracy was tested. On January 6th, a violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol to overturn a free and fair election. Law enforcement officers were injured, lives were lost, and the peaceful transfer of power was put at risk. We must never minimize what https://t.co/hnWXQmwPaW” (January 6, 2026).
The following day, Sherman addressed his constituents in Palisades regarding recovery efforts one year after devastating fires impacted their community. He wrote, “One year ago, our Palisades community endured unimaginable loss — homes, memories, and daily life were shaken. Yet what endured was the strength and compassion of our neighbors. From families rebuilding to volunteers showing up again and again, I’m inspired by you.” (January 7, 2026).
Later that day, Sherman announced a press conference with colleagues to commemorate one year since the Palisades & Eaton fires: ” LIVE STREAM STARTING NOW @RepJudyChu, @Rep_Whitesides and Sherman are leading the California Delegation in a press conference marking one year since the Palisades & Eaton fires —honoring the lives lost and demanding immediate federal disaster aid to support long-term” (January 7, 2026).
Sherman has served as a member of Congress for nearly three decades after succeeding Anthony Beilenson in 1997. Born in Los Angeles in 1954 and currently residing in Sherman Oaks at age 68, he holds degrees from UCLA (BA) and Harvard University (JD). Throughout his tenure representing California’s San Fernando Valley communities—including those affected by recent wildfires—he has emphasized resilience and federal support for disaster recovery.
