The California Golden Bears football team has provided an overview of its wide receiver group ahead of the upcoming season. The roster features a mix of returning players, transfers, and one true freshman.
Among the returners is Trond Grizzell, who last season ranked third on the team with 401 receiving yards and fourth with 27 receptions. Other returning receivers include Cole Boscia, Kyion Grayes, Jordan King, Carson Perry-Smith, Jaiven Plummer, Myles Reber, Trevor Rogers, and Isaac Torres.
The group also includes several transfers: QuaRon Adams from South Dakota State, Jacob De Jesus from UNLV, Jaydon Dixon-Veal from Purdue, Mark Hamper from Idaho/Wisconsin, and Dazmin James from Arkansas. Meyer Swinney joins as a true freshman.
QuaRon Adams played in all 14 games for South Dakota State last year and recorded 543 receiving yards on 18 catches with five touchdowns. He led the Missouri Valley Football Conference in yards per catch at 30.2 as a sophomore in 2024.
Jacob De Jesus spent two seasons at UNLV (2023-24), where he accumulated 1,118 receiving yards and five touchdown catches. He also contributed as a return specialist with over 500 punt return yards and more than 1,000 kick return yards.
Mark Hamper transferred to Cal after spending time at Idaho and Wisconsin. Last year for Idaho he posted 966 receiving yards and six touchdowns on an average of 20.1 yards per catch before enrolling at Cal in June after re-entering the transfer portal post-spring practice.
Dazmin James comes to Berkeley following his time at Arkansas. In eight games during the 2024 season for the Razorbacks—including their Liberty Bowl win over Texas Tech—he made three catches for 137 receiving yards.
Kyle Cefalo enters his first season as wide receivers coach for Cal. Cefalo brings over ten years of FBS coaching experience with previous positions at Arkansas State, Maryland, and Utah State. He has been part of six teams ranked in the top-25 nationally in total offense and passing offense during his career.
“During his time as an offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, Cefalo has been part of six teams that have been ranked in the top 25 nationally in both total offense and passing offense,” according to information provided by Cal Athletics staff.
Three teams coached by Cefalo finished among the top ten nationally in passing offense; this includes serving as wide receivers coach and special teams co-coordinator for Arkansas State’s No.2-ranked passing offense unit in 2020.
While at Utah State most recently as offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach (2023), Cefalo led a unit that averaged nearly 468 yards per game—seventh-best nationally—and second within the Mountain West Conference.
He has coached multiple All-Americans such as Omar Bayless (2019) and Jonathan Adams Jr. (2020) at Arkansas State—both Biletnikoff Award semifinalists—with Adams earning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year honors that same year. At Utah State he coached Deven Thompkins (a Biletnikoff semifinalist who now plays for Carolina Panthers) and Jalen Royals (drafted by Kansas City Chiefs in 2025).
Cefalo started his coaching career at Arkansas State under then-head coach Bryan Harsin—now Cal’s offensive coordinator—in 2013 before subsequent roles at Maryland and Utah State where he advanced to co-offensive coordinator duties by last season.
