The University of California is marking 150 years since the start of its men’s rowing program, which was the university’s first intercollegiate sport. To commemorate this anniversary, Cal Men’s Rowing has released a documentary titled “Owe Them Victory.” The film explores the team’s history and achievements, including 19 National Championships, three team Olympic gold medals, and 59 individual Olympians.

The documentary was directed and produced by Jack Gordon, an alumnus from the class of 2021 who is an Emmy Award–winning filmmaker and former member of the rowing program. According to the release, “Through extraordinary archival footage, intimate interviews, and never-before-told stories, Owe Them Victory captures not only the competitive excellence that has defined Cal Men’s Rowing but also the enduring impact the program has had on generations of student-athletes, the university, and the sport itself.”

“Owe Them Victory” also highlights how alumni and supporters continue to form a strong community around Cal Men’s Rowing.
