Cedar Sky Montgomery, 45, from Calaveras County, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for making interstate threats of violence. The sentence was delivered by U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.
Court documents reveal that Montgomery used both a cellphone and the internet to threaten multiple individuals. In one instance, he threatened a victim with death and claimed they would “watch members of your family hanging from trees while your famil[y’]s Houses Burn to ground.” On another occasion, he sent messages threatening to kill another victim and their brother, saying he would “kill as many members of your family as I can find!” He also told this victim he would cut off their fingers and hands.
Montgomery sent threatening voicemails to a third victim stating, “the bomb maker is going to kill everybody in your [expletive] family,” among other violent threats.
Between late November 2023 and early January 2024, Montgomery harassed a fourth victim through repeated calls and hundreds of unwanted text messages. These included obscene cartoons and photos along with threats against the victim’s romantic partner. Similar harassment was directed at another victim with angry voicemails and disturbing images.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation in Stockton, Los Angeles, and Washington Field Office with support from the U.S. Secret Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adrian T. Kinsella prosecuted the case.
