The California Chamber of Commerce has issued a statement following the California Department of Fish & Wildlife’s recent amendment to the incidental take permit for the State Water Project. The permit amendment addresses how water is managed and delivered across the state, with a focus on balancing environmental protection and economic needs.

In its statement, CalChamber recognized the efforts by state officials: “CalChamber applauds state officials for their efforts to ensure a reasonable and thoughtful balance of economic and environmental needs in ensuring the long-term success of the State Water Project.

“Water supply reliability plays an essential role in supporting businesses, families, and communities across the state. The ITP amendment will allow California to better implement adaptive, science-based decision making that maximizes water delivery when conditions permit, while still protecting species.”

The State Water Project is a major system that provides water to millions of Californians and supports agricultural production. The recent amendment is intended to help manage water supplies more flexibly while maintaining protections for wildlife.
