Productions filmed in California have garnered a significant number of nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards. Announced today, these productions received at least 104 nominations across various categories, reaffirming California’s status as a leading hub for television production.

Several prominent California-based productions are recognized in key categories. “The Studio” from Apple TV+ leads with 23 nominations, including Best Comedy Series and acting nods for Seth Rogen, Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O’Hara, and Ike Barinholtz. HBO Max’s “Hacks” follows with 14 nominations, featuring Jean Smart as Best Actress in a Comedy Series.

“The Pitt,” also from HBO Max, has secured 13 nominations in the drama category with Noah Wyle nominated for Best Actor. Netflix’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” received 11 nominations in the limited series category.

Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced an expansion of California’s Film and Television Tax Credit Program to support such productions further. The program’s annual funding has more than doubled to $750 million to sustain California’s competitive edge in the creative economy while enhancing workforce diversity and safety provisions.

The upcoming application cycle for this expanded program is scheduled for August 25–27, 2025.

The Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on September 14th at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
