The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has opened the application period for its 2026 Pet Lover’s Spay and Neuter Grant Program. The program aims to support organizations that provide spay and neuter services for dogs and cats throughout the state.

According to the CDFA, eligible applicants include animal control agencies, shelters, and nonprofit organizations. The grant is intended to help reduce pet overpopulation by funding low-cost or free spay and neuter surgeries.

“Through this grant program, we are committed to supporting local communities in their efforts to manage pet populations humanely,” said Karen Ross, Secretary at California Department of Food and Agriculture. “We encourage eligible organizations across California to apply for funding that will expand access to these essential services.”

Applications will be accepted until February 28, 2026. More information about eligibility requirements and how to apply can be found on the CDFA’s official website.
