The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) announced its participation in the 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer, joining a global effort to recognize and support women working in agriculture.

In a statement released by the department, officials emphasized the importance of highlighting women’s contributions to farming. “The International Year of the Woman Farmer is an opportunity for us to acknowledge and elevate the critical role that women play in feeding our communities and sustaining agricultural systems,” said CDFA Secretary Karen Ross. “We look forward to working with partners across California and around the world to ensure that women farmers have access to resources, opportunities, and recognition they deserve.”

The initiative aims to promote gender equity in agriculture through various programs, outreach efforts, and partnerships at both local and international levels. The CDFA plans to collaborate with stakeholders throughout 2026 as part of this campaign.

Additional details about specific events or programs related to California’s involvement are expected as planning progresses.
