The California Golden Bears men’s tennis team began its 2026 home season with two victories at the Hellman Tennis Complex on Friday. The No. 15 ranked Bears defeated Cal Poly 7-0 in the morning and San Diego State 4-1 later in the day, improving their record to 4-0.
Cal secured the doubles point against Cal Poly with wins from Tiago Silva and Timofey Stepanov (6-3) on court one, and Alex Aney with Lenn Luemkemann (6-3) on court three. In singles, Fryderyk Lechno Wasiutynski earned the second point for Cal with a straight-set win. Stepanov followed with another straight-set victory, while Silva clinched the match for the Bears by coming back to win in three sets.
After securing the overall win, Lee, Bernardo Munk Mesa, and Paris Pouatcha also won their singles matches.
In their second match of the day against San Diego State, Silva and Stepanov quickly took the doubles point on court one (6-0), followed by a clinching win from Munk Mesa and Pouatcha (6-4) on court three. In singles play, Lechno Wasiutynski gave Cal its second point with another straight-set victory. Munk Mesa added a third point before freshman Leonardo Cattaneo sealed the match for Cal with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
