The California Golden Bears football team will open their 2025 season against Oregon State in Corvallis, Oregon. The game is scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. PT at Reser Stadium and will be broadcast live on ESPN. This matchup marks the 88th meeting between the two teams and continues a streak of annual games dating back to 1995.
California leads the all-time series with Oregon State, holding a record of 40-37, though Oregon State has a 17-13 advantage in games played in Corvallis. The last time these teams met at Reser Stadium was in November 2022, when Oregon State won 38-10. Freshman quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele will start for California, becoming only the second true freshman to do so since Jared Goff in 2013. As a high school senior at Campbell High School in Hawai’i, Sagapolutele set the state’s all-time passing yards record with over 10,000 yards and was recognized as a top recruit nationally.
Junior inside linebacker Cade Uluave will serve as team captain for the upcoming season after earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors last year with notable defensive statistics across nine games.
Ron Rivera returns to Berkeley as Cal Football’s new General Manager. Rivera played four seasons for California before spending more than three decades in the NFL as both player and coach.
The Golden Bears have added 55 new players to their roster this year, including newcomers on offense, defense, and special teams.
Several players have received preseason honors: Cade Uluave appears on multiple watch lists and preseason teams; wide receiver Jacob De Jesus is recognized for his potential impact as both receiver and punt returner; defensive lineman Aidan Keanaaina and tight end Jeffrey Johnson are also listed among preseason honorees.
