California Golden Bears softball head coach Steve Singleton has announced the addition of three new coaches to his staff as he begins his first season leading the program.

“I couldn’t be more excited to announce the hiring of Danielle Gibson Whorton, Camille Corona and Chelsea Rex-Singleton,” Singleton stated. “The three of them combine to bring a ton of energy, passion, knowledge and experience to the game. We hired three incredible people, and I believe the people you have make the biggest difference. I’m truly excited to see what they’ll do here at Cal.”

Danielle Gibson Whorton will serve as hitting coach. She joins California after two seasons as an assistant coach at Arkansas, where she contributed to an 81-32 record and back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances for the Razorbacks. During her time there, she coached four NFCA All-Americans and 13 NFCA All-Region honorees, as well as the 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. Before Arkansas, Gibson Whorton was a volunteer coach at Georgia for one season.

Gibson Whorton is also active as a professional player with the Bandits in Athletes Unlimited Softball League (ASUL), following her selection in the Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball College Draft in 2022. As a collegiate athlete at Arkansas and Arizona State, she played in 248 games with a .366 batting average, 60 home runs and 220 RBIs. She helped lead Arkansas to consecutive SEC regular season championships in 2021 and 2022 and earned several honors throughout her career including two NFCA All-American accolades.

Camille Corona has been named assistant coach after spending last season at Florida Southwestern, where she helped guide the team to a 56-7 record, their ninth straight conference championship, an FCSAA title, a runner-up finish in the NJCAA National Championship game and produced two NJCAA All-Americans. She also served as head coach for Texas Bluebonnets in Texas’ Lone Star State Summer Collegiate Softball League.

Corona played four years at Texas before transferring to Texas-Arlington for her final year in 2024. In college play she posted a .407 batting average over her career with three NCAA postseason appearances. With Texas-Arlington she earned first-team All-WAC honors along with several other distinctions after leading her team statistically in multiple categories.

Chelsea Rex-Singleton joins as pitching coach after serving two years as an assistant coach at Southwestern where she guided players who received all-conference recognition. Previously, Rex-Singleton spent six years coaching at Redlands University starting as graduate assistant before becoming an assistant coach; during this period Redlands won both SCIAC tournament and regular season titles under head coach Jose Ortega.

As a player herself Rex-Singleton pitched in 53 games with a career ERA of 4.13 alongside offensive contributions that included seven home runs over her collegiate tenure.
