The California Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory Board has released data detailing vehicle and pedestrian stops conducted by law enforcement agencies throughout California in 2024. This data, collected under the Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA), includes information about peace officers’ perceptions of individuals’ demographics during these stops, covering factors such as race or ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, and disability. The public can review this information through OpenJustice, a platform developed to provide access to criminal justice data and inform policy discussions.

On November 18, 2025, the Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory Board decided to delay the publication of its full report analyzing the 2024 stop data. The report will now be released on January 31, 2026. It is expected to offer findings and policy recommendations at that time.

The California Attorney General’s office serves as the state’s chief law enforcement authority, overseeing legal matters across California. It provides services including legal representation, criminal investigations, forensic support, consumer protection initiatives, civil rights enforcement, and promotes transparency through public data tools such as OpenJustice (https://oag.ca.gov/). Rob Bonta leads the office as Attorney General (https://oag.ca.gov/).

“The information collected under the Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA) includes data on peace officers’ perceptions of the demographics of stopped individuals, such as race or ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, and disability. Members of the public can access the data on OpenJustice, a data-driven initiative that works to increase access to data and support the development of public policy.”

“On November 18, 2025, the Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory Board voted to move the publication of the accompanying report analyzing 2024 stop data to January 31, 2026. More information on the Board’s findings and policy recommendations will be available then.”

The California Attorney General’s office forms an integral part of California’s executive branch with responsibilities for enforcing state laws and advancing policies in areas such as civil rights and consumer protections (https://oag.ca.gov/). Its activities cover all regions of California.
