The California softball team lost to North Carolina State, 14-8, in the series opener on April 10 at Dail Softball Stadium.
The game saw multiple lead changes as both teams produced high-scoring innings. California took an early lead with an RBI single from Maddie Rey in the first inning, but North Carolina State responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Anya German hit a solo home run for California to narrow the gap, but NC State extended its lead by scoring additional runs in the second inning.
After a scoreless third inning, California’s offense surged with five runs in the fourth. Rey delivered a bases-loaded double that drove in three runs and later scored on an error. German added another RBI double, giving California a temporary lead at 7-5. However, NC State answered immediately with three runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth and continued to build momentum by adding five more runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth.
German hit her second solo home run of the game for California during the seventh inning, setting up the final score of 14-8. With this loss, California’s record dropped to 13 wins and 28 losses overall and three wins against thirteen losses within Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Both teams are scheduled to return for another matchup at Dail Softball Stadium on Saturday.
