The California softball team lost to Notre Dame 6-2 on March 28 in the series opener at Melissa Cook Stadium.
The game saw Notre Dame take an early lead, but California briefly went ahead before the Fighting Irish regained control. This result affects both teams’ positions as they continue their seasons.
Notre Dame scored first with a run in the second inning on a fielder’s choice. California responded in the third inning when Carly Raven hit a two-run single up the middle, giving the Bears a short-lived 2-1 lead. However, Notre Dame answered immediately with three runs in the bottom of that inning to move ahead 4-2.
In the fourth inning, Notre Dame added two more runs, setting what would be the final score at 6-2. The Bears were unable to recover from this deficit for the remainder of the game.
With this loss, California’s overall record falls to 11 wins and 24 losses and their conference record stands at one win and nine losses. The team is scheduled to return for a doubleheader against Notre Dame on Sunday.
The outcome underscores challenges faced by California during conference play this season as they look ahead to upcoming games.
