The California softball team announced on Mar. 31 that it will host Louisville for an Atlantic Coast Conference series at Viking Field at West Valley College in Saratoga, starting Thursday at 2 p.m. Pacific Time.
The upcoming games mark the fifth meeting between the Golden Bears and the Cardinals, with California leading the all-time series 3-1. Their last encounter was on Feb. 25, 2017, when Cal secured a 5-2 victory over Louisville.
The three-game set is scheduled from April 2 to April 4, with game times set for Thursday and Friday at 2 p.m., and Saturday at noon Pacific Time. Fans can follow live stats or watch via ACCNX.
Several players have made notable contributions this season. In a recent doubleheader against Notre Dame, Cal stole eleven bases. Six players have five or more stolen bases each, led by Kayli Counts and Kayla Lee with ten apiece. Four players have hit five or more home runs this year; Kyndal Todd and Carly Raven top the list with seven each. Five players have recorded twenty-five or more hits so far, including Gator Robinson and Counts who both lead with thirty-one hits.
Layna Gerhard threw Cal’s first no-hitter in eight years on March 1. The current roster features five freshmen and eight returning players from last season as well as ten transfers—seven of whom came from other Power Four conference schools.
Historically, California has appeared in thirty-six NCAA Tournaments—fourth most among all programs—and has qualified for twelve Women’s College World Series events. The Bears won their only NCAA championship in 2002 under future Hall of Famers Jocelyn Forest and Cadance Harper.
Steve Singleton was named head coach of California softball on Aug. 4, 2025. Singleton previously coached professionally in minor league baseball before serving as an assistant coach at Texas beginning in 2019 where he helped guide three teams to WCWS appearances.
