California defeated Stanford in the 92nd Big Row on May 2, winning all three varsity eight races at the Belmont Channel/Redwood Shores Lagoon. The event, which is a longstanding rivalry between the two teams, saw California maintain possession of the Schwabacher Cup after securing victory in the first varsity eight race.

The competition is significant as it highlights one of collegiate rowing’s most recognized rivalries. Both teams use the course as their home venue, and this year’s event marked another chapter in their shared history.

California’s first varsity eight finished with a time of 5:49.8, ahead of Stanford’s 5:52.6. In the second varsity eight race, California posted a time of 5:55.7 to Stanford’s 5:58.8. The third varsity eight also went to California with a finish of 5:58.1 compared to Stanford’s 6:12.5.

Compared to last season when only two races were held and Stanford trailed by more than nine seconds in each, this year saw closer margins with both primary races decided by about three seconds.

Stanford’s regular season concludes with its first and second varsity eights posting dual records of six wins and four losses each; the third boat finished at four wins and four losses. Next for Stanford is its debut appearance at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on May 17 at Lake Natoma in Gold River, followed by participation in the IRA Championships from May 29-31 at the same location.

The results reflect ongoing competition between these programs and set up both teams for upcoming championship events.
