The California women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Utah Valley on Thursday night in Orem, Utah. This marks the second tie of the season for the Golden Bears, who now hold a 2-1-2 record.

Utah Valley outshot Cal 18-6 and had eight corner kicks compared to Cal’s one. Despite this, the Golden Bears managed to prevent the Wolverines from scoring for most of the match. Senior goalkeeper Teagan Wy recorded five saves, matching her season high for the second consecutive game.

“Wy is now tied for second in the ACC with 17 saves this year.”

The first half ended scoreless. Early in the second half, Wy made a leaping save and quickly started a counterattack that led to Cal’s goal in the 52nd minute. Senior Coco Thistle scored her second goal of the season with a shot from just outside the penalty area. Junior Emelia Warta was credited with an assist, marking her first point as a Bear.

In the 61st minute, Utah Valley equalized when Cal conceded an own goal that was credited to UVU’s Ruby Hladek.

Both teams had late opportunities inside the penalty area during the final minute, but neither side could find another goal.

Cal will next play at home against Arizona on Sunday at Edwards Stadium. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACCNX.
