The California women’s soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday in Fullerton, closing out their season-opening road trip. The Golden Bears, now holding a record of 1-0-1, recorded both their first shutout and were held scoreless for the first time this season.
Cal controlled much of the match offensively, outshooting the Titans 20-3 and earning nine corner kicks. Thirteen of those shots came in the first half. Senior Alex Klos led the team with two shots on goal, but Cal State Fullerton goalkeeper Isaac Ranson made several key saves to keep the game scoreless.
Despite multiple attacks and promising opportunities from Cal, they were unable to convert any chances into goals. On defense, senior goalkeeper Teagan Wy made one save for the Bears to help maintain the clean sheet.
Five freshmen saw playing time for California during the match. Cara Borthwick and Olivia McPherson each made their collegiate debuts, while Elhom Khursand started her second consecutive game and played 76 minutes.
California returns home undefeated and will host San Francisco in its home opener at Edwards Stadium on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The match is scheduled to be broadcast on ACCNX.
