Fifth-year player Skylar Briggs from the California women’s soccer team has signed her first professional contract with HB Køge, a Danish club. The announcement was made on Wednesday.
Briggs has been a key player for the Golden Bears over the past five years, contributing both on and off the field. As a defensive midfielder, her role in winning balls in the midfield and facilitating offense is crucial, though not always reflected in statistics. Head coach Neil McGuire expressed his excitement about Briggs’s achievement: “We are thrilled for Skylar to realize her life-long dream of becoming a professional,” he said. “She is a very special person, and an incredible player, and no one is more deserving.”
After graduating in spring 2024, Briggs chose to play a fifth season to help transition the Bears into their new era as members of the ACC. During this season, she appeared in 20 games with 18 starts, accumulating 1,673 minutes and two assists. Her college career includes 85 matches with 64 starts and six assists.
HB Køge recently finished their Elitedivisionen season in third place during the championship round and qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champions League three times from 2021-23.
