A Carson resident and former United States Postal Service employee pleaded guilty to stealing checks and credit cards from the mail over a three-year period, using the proceeds to fund luxury purchases and international travel.

Mary Ann Magdamit, 31, admitted in federal court to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud. She had worked as a letter carrier at the Torrance Main Post Office. According to her plea agreement and court documents, between 2022 and July 2025, Magdamit stole mail containing checks, personal identifying information, and debit and credit cards. She activated some of these stolen cards online for her own use and sold others to accomplices.

Magdamit also arranged for co-conspirators to cash stolen checks using counterfeit identity documents matching the payees’ names. Federally insured banks and credit unions were among those affected by the scheme.

Law enforcement searched Magdamit’s apartment in December 2024, finding 133 stolen credit and debit cards, 16 U.S. Department of Treasury checks, luxury goods purchased with stolen funds, and a loaded un-serialized Glock-clone pistol known as a “ghost gun.” Authorities said she used some of the stolen cards on trips abroad including visits to Turks and Caicos and Aruba.

Agents arrested Magdamit on July 1 after discovering she continued making purchases with victims’ credit cards. A subsequent search found additional stolen cards. She has remained in federal custody since then.

Magdamit displayed her luxury purchases and vacations on Instagram along with large amounts of cash. As part of her plea agreement, she agreed to forfeit a Rolex watch along with other luxury items.

United States District Judge John F. Walter set sentencing for October 27; Magdamit faces up to 30 years in federal prison if convicted on all charges.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Treasury Inspector General of Tax Administration.

Assistant United States Attorney Andrew Brown is prosecuting the case.
