The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has opened the application period for its Adaptive IPM for Invasive Agricultural Pests program. The program, which was previously known as Proactive IPM Solutions, is managed by the Office of Pesticide Consultation and Analysis within the Office of Agricultural Resilience and Sustainability. It offers a total of $500,000 in this grant cycle to fund one grant.
This initiative aims to tackle the threat posed by invasive agricultural pests in California through adaptable integrated pest management (IPM) strategies. These strategies allow for quick responses to new or expanding pest threats. The program also supports research to improve existing IPM methods against established pests that have become more widespread or resistant to pesticides.
The Adaptive IPM for Invasive Agricultural Pests program emphasizes lower-risk pest management solutions such as biological control and selective chemistries over broad-spectrum insecticides. Applications are open until 5:00 pm on August 29, 2025. Eligible applicants include public or private colleges and universities, government entities at various levels including tribal governments, non-profit organizations, and commodity groups. Applicants must be based in California.
Further details about the application process can be found on the CDFA website.
The Office of Agricultural Resilience and Sustainability (OARS) focuses on ensuring a sustainable future for California’s agriculture sector. With family-owned farms making up 90 percent of the state’s agricultural landscape and producing a significant portion of the nation’s crops, these farms face challenges from climate change and pest pressures. OARS provides tools and strategies to enhance environmental resilience and economic sustainability across California’s diverse agricultural environment.
