The Coachella Valley Firebirds defeated the Colorado Eagles at Acrisure Arena on May 15 in Game 2 of the best-of-five third round series, winning by a score of 4-0. Goaltender Nikke Kokko made 33 saves to earn his second shutout of the playoffs, while J.R. Avon scored two goals to help tie the Pacific Division Finals at one game each.

The outcome was decided after two scoreless periods, as Avon broke the deadlock just over a minute into the third period. Eduard Sale added another goal shortly after, and Avon scored again later in the period before Oscar Fisker Molgaard closed out scoring with an empty net goal. Both Avon and Fisker Molgaard now share the team lead for goals this postseason with seven each.

Coachella Valley was outshot by Colorado, finishing with 25 shots compared to Colorado’s 33. The Firebirds’ power play went without a goal on three opportunities, while their penalty kill successfully stopped all four chances against them.

The Coachella Valley Firebirds serve as the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Seattle Kraken and have recorded deep playoff runs and division titles in their early seasons, according to the official website. The organization also focuses on building a passionate hockey community through fan events and initiatives, youth hockey development, education efforts, health programs, and partnerships with local nonprofits supporting families and children.

Game 3 will take place in Loveland, Colorado on Sunday, May 17. Fans are invited to attend official watch parties hosted by Taproom 29 at Spotlight 29 Casino as well as Burgers & Beers locations in Rancho Mirage and La Quinta.
