Congressman Brad Sherman, representing California’s 32nd district since 1997, recently shared his perspectives on several issues concerning South Asia through a series of tweets. The tweets address topics ranging from water rights along the Indus River to terrorism and the protection of religious minorities in Pakistan.
On June 5, 2025, Congressman Sherman tweeted about the significance of water rights discussions along the Indus River during a meeting. He stated that “China should not take any adverse actions towards India to restrict water in the region.” Furthermore, he advised that “India should not take any adverse actions towards Pakistan to restrict the Indus.”
In another tweet posted on the same day, Sherman emphasized to the Pakistani delegation the necessity of combating terrorism. He highlighted the group Jaish-e-Mohammed and mentioned their involvement in murdering his constituent Daniel Pearl in 2002. Sherman stressed that “Pearl’s family continues to live in my district, and Pakistan should do all it can to eliminate this.”
Additionally, Sherman addressed concerns regarding religious minorities in Pakistan. In a subsequent tweet, he noted that “Christians, Hindus, and Ahmadiyya Muslims living in Pakistan must be allowed to practice their faith and participate in the democratic system without fear of violence, persecution, discrimination.”
Brad Sherman has been an active member of Congress for several decades. Born in Los Angeles in 1954, he resides in Sherman Oaks and holds degrees from UCLA and Harvard University.
