Omar Vayas Duran, 45, of Delano, has been sentenced to six years and eight months in federal prison for his role in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Edward J. Davila, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Eric Grant.

Court documents show that between September 23, 2020, and June 29, 2021, Duran worked with Jesus Manuel Morfin Villa, 31, also of Delano, and others to obtain and distribute fentanyl. In June 2021, Duran provided Morfin Villa with about 2,000 counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl for resale.

Morfin Villa was previously sentenced on August 14, 2023, to a term of 14 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl.

The Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation into the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kimberly A. Sanchez and Cody S. Chapple prosecuted the matter.
