Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded on April 24 to a residence on Washoan Road in Apple Valley following reports of an unknown problem and discovered a home engulfed in flames and one deceased person. Authorities said they found a 59-year-old male victim at a neighboring property suffering from severe injuries after being stabbed at his own home.
The incident highlights the complex situations law enforcement faces when responding to violent domestic disputes that escalate into further emergencies. The suspect, described as an adult female pending positive identification, was involved in a physical altercation with the victim before allegedly setting the house on fire.
According to investigators, deputies tried to enter the residence but found it barricaded. A family member managed to exit safely before shots were heard inside. The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division arrived and attempted contact with the suspect without success. Within minutes, flames overtook the residence and nearby homes were evacuated for safety reasons while firefighters extinguished the blaze. After clearing the scene, authorities located a deceased woman inside.
The Specialized Investigations Detail took over and learned that after stabbing her husband during an altercation, the suspect set fire to their shared home. The male victim was transported for medical treatment while positive identification of the decedent is pending; an autopsy will determine cause of death.
