Carrie Lynn Grant, a resident of Pleasant Hill, California, has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for embezzling more than $1.6 million from a Northern California charity focused on providing educational materials and programs to help young people prepare for success in the global economy. The sentence was delivered by U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín.
Grant, 62, served as the finance manager of the non-profit organization. According to court documents and her plea agreement, she misappropriated funds from November 2017 through June 2023 by transferring money from the charity into her personal account and creating fraudulent records to conceal her actions. The stolen funds were used for personal expenses such as first-class air travel, premium sports event tickets—including floor seats at a Golden State Warriors game and box seats at a San Francisco 49ers game—and the purchase of a condominium in Hawaii.
“United States Attorney Craig Missakian and FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge Agustin Lopez made the announcement.”
In addition to her prison term, Grant was ordered to serve three years of supervised release following incarceration. The amount of restitution she will be required to pay will be determined at a later date. She is scheduled to begin serving her sentence on March 9, 2026.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan M. Mateer with support from Christine Tian and Amala James. The investigation was conducted by the FBI.
