FOIA Request to University of California Berkeley Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.

Golden State Today, in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of California Berkeley. Our inquiry seeks comprehensive data concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university. Specifically, we have requested documents or lists detailing all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments. In cases where student names are protected, we have asked for aggregated totals broken down by department.

Additionally, our request includes information on scholarships awarded to these students. We seek details on the amount and source of each scholarship received by Chinese National students. Furthermore, we have asked for clarification regarding any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Our inquiry also extends to university policies and procedures that ensure the protection of intellectual property and confidential information, particularly concerning international students.

As members of the media dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe this information is crucial for informing the public about educational and governmental practices. We have requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating news to the public.

This request aligns with our mission to leverage Freedom of Information laws to provide insight into government actions and inform the American electorate.
