FOIA Request to University of California Santa Barbara Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.

We, as representatives of Golden State Today and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of California Santa Barbara. Our request seeks detailed information about Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university. Specifically, we are asking for documents or lists that reveal the number and departmental distribution of these students. Additionally, we are interested in any scholarships they receive, including details about the scholarship amounts and their sources.

Furthermore, our request includes a query about scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council. We seek clarity on which scholarships fall under this category if not already covered by previous requests. Lastly, we have requested any policies or procedures that outline how the university safeguards its intellectual property and confidential information concerning all students, including those who are Chinese Nationals.

This request is part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions. As members of the media and advocates for open government practices, we emphasize the importance of access to public records in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. In line with this mission, we have requested a fee waiver given our role in disseminating information to the public.

Our organization remains dedicated to uncovering governmental actions through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, ensuring that citizens remain informed about matters affecting their communities.
