Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several new appointments across various departments and commissions in California. These appointments reflect a mix of reappointments and new roles within state governance.

Paul Tupy from Oroville has been appointed as the Director of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Tupy has a long history with the department, having served in various capacities since 2009. His role will require Senate confirmation, and he will receive a compensation of $226,602.

Andrew Rakestraw from Kensington has been reappointed as Chair of the Board of Environmental Safety. Rakestraw’s experience includes significant roles at the United States Department of State related to climate negotiations. His position also requires Senate confirmation with a compensation package of $192,189.

Jordan Traverso from Sacramento takes on the role of Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the California Department of Cannabis Control. Her extensive background in public affairs includes leadership positions at the East Bay Regional Park District and California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Laurence Michael Costa from Oakland joins the California Commission on Aging. Costa brings experience from his time as Executive Director at the California Association of Area Agencies on Aging. This appointment does not require Senate confirmation or provide compensation.

Kathleen Selenski from Sacramento is also appointed to the California Commission on Aging. She has held advisory roles at investment associations and was previously Executive Director at CalSavers Retirement Savings Board.

Michael Luna from Fair Oaks is appointed to the State Independent Living Council, bringing his expertise from his work with developmental services in California.

Robert Twomey from San Francisco joins the State Council on Developmental Disabilities, leveraging his investigative experience with state licensing boards.

Lastly, Gloria Martinez from Santa Paula is appointed to the Ventura County Fair Board (31st District Agricultural Association). Her role involves community engagement through her work with local chambers and economic vitality initiatives.

These appointments reflect Governor Newsom’s commitment to filling key roles with experienced individuals across various sectors within state government.
