Governor Gavin Newsom has responded to recent federal immigration actions by deploying additional California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers to Los Angeles. The decision comes as a measure to ensure safety on the highways and maintain peace in the area.

Newsom stated, “As the federal government conducts chaotic immigration sweeps across the country, the state is deploying additional CHP to maintain safety on Los Angeles highways to keep the peace.” He emphasized that it is not within the duties of CHP officers to assist in federal immigration enforcement efforts.

The governor criticized the federal government’s approach, saying, “The federal government is sowing chaos so they can have an excuse to escalate. That is not the way any civilized country behaves.”

This move underscores ongoing tensions between state and federal authorities regarding immigration policy and enforcement strategies.
