Governor Gavin Newsom is advancing efforts to improve California’s government efficiency by connecting state agencies with technology leaders. The initiative, known as the California Breakthrough Project, aims to identify opportunities for enhancing government operations and services.

Announcing the initiative, Governor Newsom stated, “The Golden State continues to lead in efficiency, strategically implementing technologies and practices that make Californians’ lives better. As the birthplace of modern tech, our state is uniquely positioned to bring the best and the brightest together to advance our work.”

The project brings together executives from leading tech companies such as AME Cloud Ventures, Anduril, Coinbase, Instacart, Moonpay, Scopely, Snap Inc., among others. These leaders met at Ripple headquarters on June 6 and are tasked with advising on improving government efficiency and collaboration.

The Governor also signed an executive order directing all state agencies to implement measures that enhance engagement and effectiveness within the workforce. This order emphasizes ending bureaucratic delays by modernizing hiring processes and public service deliveries.

Governor Newsom has prioritized innovation throughout his administration. He established the Office of Data Innovation in 2019 and implemented new technologies for various state functions including firefighting efforts. Additionally, a new executive order was issued today focusing on integrating GenAI into state operations.

Efforts continue with initiatives like Engaged California—a digital democracy platform—and collaborations with industry giants like NVIDIA for AI advancements aimed at job creation and solving challenges in California.
