At the direction of Governor Gavin Newsom, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has authorized the predeployment of additional firefighting resources to Los Angeles and San Diego counties. This move adds to earlier deployments in Los Angeles, Kern, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Bernardino counties as Southern California faces a period of elevated heat and critical fire weather conditions expected from Wednesday through Sunday.

A total of 47 fire engines, nine water tenders, nine bulldozers, five helicopters, 10 hand crews, 14 dispatchers, and two Incident Management Teams are being stationed across five counties. The goal is to ensure rapid response capabilities to minimize the potential impact of new fires. Officials note that this proactive approach is a key part of California’s wildfire response strategy by reducing response times and containing fires before they become major incidents.

Residents are advised to remain alert during this period of increased fire risk. Californians are encouraged to prepare a wildfire action plan that includes evacuation routes and a go-bag with essentials. Signing up for local emergency alerts can help residents stay informed about changing conditions. Additional heat safety information tailored to specific areas is available at CalHeatScore.CalEPA.ca.gov.
