Sophomore Harry Takis and senior Tyler Kowack are tied for the individual lead after the second round of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship, according to a May 4 update from San Diego State University. The event is being held at Omni Tucson National Resort in Tucson, Arizona.

Takis shot a bogey-free round of 66 with six birdies on Monday, while Kowack followed his opening-round 65 with a three-under-par 69. Both players stand at ten under par, sharing the top spot with Grand Canyon’s Mans Boje heading into Tuesday’s final round.

The Aztecs, who have won the championship four times in a row, finished Monday’s play in third place as a team after posting a seven-under-par score of 281. UNLV leads the tournament at twenty-seven under par following an eighteen-under round on Monday. Grand Canyon is one stroke behind UNLV in second place.

Other San Diego State golfers include Nathan Sampson, who is tied for twentieth at four under par after shooting an even-par seventy-two; Dylan Oyama, tied for forty-fifth at two over; and Kai Hirayama, tied for fifty-second at five over. The team will compete in Tuesday’s final group alongside leaders UNLV and Grand Canyon starting at eight o’clock Pacific Time.

The outcome of this championship could affect rankings within collegiate golf as teams compete closely near the top of the leaderboard.
