San Diego State University sophomore Harry Takis was named the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Year, according to a May 15 announcement from the league.

The award recognizes Takis for his achievements during the season and marks him as one of only three underclassmen to receive this honor in conference history. He is also the second consecutive Aztec to earn this distinction, following Justin Hastings in 2025.

Takis had what has been described as arguably the best season in San Diego State history. He enters next week’s NCAA Regionals ranked fourth in Scoreboard powered by clippd computer ratings. His average score is 69.22 strokes per round over nine tournaments and 27 rounds for the season, setting a new single-season record at SDSU by more than a stroke. Out of his nine tournaments, he recorded one victory, two runner-up finishes, five top-5 placements, six top-10s, and eight top-20 showings.

In addition to being named Golfer of the Year, Takis was selected for the all-conference team along with teammate Tyler Kowack. The major awards and all-conference selections are voted on by head coaches from across the league’s twelve teams. Last week, Takis was chosen for the international team at July’s Arnold Palmer Cup and remains a semifinalist for both the Ben Hogan Award and Haskins Award postseason watch lists.

Kowack finished as runner-up at last week’s Mountain West Championship with a score of 16-under-par while Takis placed third at -13. Kowack ranks second on SDSU’s team with an average score of 72.67 per round this season and won an individual title at last fall’s Marquette Intercollegiate.

The Aztecs have earned a No. 7 seed in next week’s Marana Regional near Tucson, Arizona (May 18-20), where they will compete for advancement to NCAA Championships scheduled later this month in Carlsbad, California.
