San Diego State University sophomore men’s golfer Harry Takis will join the international team at the Arnold Palmer Cup this July, according to a May 5 announcement from the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The Arnold Palmer Cup is a Ryder Cup-style event that brings together top collegiate golfers from around the world. The tournament, co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the GCAA, matches teams from the United States against an international squad of both men’s and women’s players. This year marks its 30th edition and will be held July 3-5 at Tralee Golf Links in West Barrow, Ireland.
Takis becomes the fifth player from San Diego State to earn selection for an Arnold Palmer Cup team. Previous Aztecs who have competed include Aaron Goldberg and Nahum Mendoza III for Team USA in 2008 and 2016, as well as Puwit Anupansuebsai (2020 and 2021) and Justin Hastings (2025) for Team International.
Takis recently finished third at the Mountain West Championship with a score of 13-under-par. For this season, he holds a scoring average of 69.22 across nine tournaments—an Aztec single-season record now that he has played enough rounds to qualify. His performance includes one victory, two runner-up finishes, five top-five results, six top-ten showings, and eight top-twenty placings out of nine events. Over his career at SDSU since qualifying rounds began being recorded in 1993-94, Takis also holds the program’s lowest scoring average at 70.34 over sixty-two rounds.
The Arnold Palmer Cup began in 1997 featuring eight American collegiate golfers versus Great Britain & Ireland before expanding over time to include all European players in 2002; roster sizes increased again in subsequent years before opening up worldwide participation starting with both men’s and women’s teams in 2018. Since then more than two hundred fifty alumni have earned cards on major professional tours including PGA, DP World Tour or LPGA Tours; forty-four former participants have represented Europe or USA in global competitions such as Ryder Cup or Solheim Cup.
SDSU is awaiting news on its NCAA Regional destination which will be announced live on Wednesday morning via Golf Channel.
