For the fourth time, California defensive back Hezekiah Masses has been named to an All-America team. The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) selected Masses as a second-team All-American, according to an announcement made Thursday.
Masses has now earned All-America recognition from four of the five major organizations: Walter Camp, Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, and FWAA. Only the NCAA Consensus All-America team has yet to be announced.
This season, Masses was tied for fourth nationally with five interceptions. Within the ACC, his total matched the second-highest mark among players in the conference.
Alongside his interception numbers, Masses led both the nation and the ACC with 18 passes defended and averaged 1.50 passes defended per game—also tops in the country. He ranked second both nationally and in the ACC with 13 pass breakups and recorded 43 tackles over 12 games for California.
Masses is now the second consecutive Cal defensive back to earn All-America honors following Nohl Williams’ achievement last season.
