U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer for Enrique Bautista Vasquez, a Mexican national charged with lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and rape following the alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year-old autistic girl in Cathedral City, California.Â
Vasquez had previously re-entered the United States illegally after being removed and was released into the country in January 2025 using fraudulent documents. The Cathedral City Police Department arrested him after an investigation that included medical evidence and items found at his residence. The detainer is intended to prevent his release back into the community.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, ICE also reported the arrest of an illegal alien with 14 criminal convictions in San Francisco, California. These convictions include cruelty toward a child, burglary, fraud, and hit-and-run. This action is part of efforts targeting criminal illegal aliens in sanctuary jurisdictions, where seventy percent of ICE arrests involve individuals charged or convicted of crimes in the U.S.
The Department further said that ICE has arrested criminal illegal aliens nationwide who have been convicted of serious offenses such as raping a child under 12, domestic violence assault, and alien smuggling. These arrests are part of broader efforts to remove violent offenders from communities.
ICE was established in 2003 through the merger of elements from the former U.S. Customs Service and Immigration and Naturalization Service. It employs over 20,000 law enforcement and support personnel across more than 400 offices domestically and internationally. The agency’s mission focuses on upholding U.S. immigration law through its primary operational directorates for investigations, enforcement and removals, and legal advice.
