Senior catcher Jayden Lobliner hit for the cycle as San Diego defeated Loyola Marymount 17-8 in the opener of their final West Coast Conference series on May 15 at Fowler Park and Cunningham Field.

Lobliner became only the second player in San Diego program history to achieve this feat, and the first since Kevin Reese did so in February 2000. He is also the first Torero to hit for the cycle at Fowler Park since it opened in 2013.

The Toreros’ offense produced 16 hits and scored 17 runs, improving their record to 18-30-1 overall and 10-14-1 in conference play. The result keeps San Diego’s postseason hopes alive with two games remaining in the regular season.

Lobliner went four-for-six with four runs scored and four runs batted in. He started his night with an RBI double, later added a home run, a single, and completed his cycle with a triple leading off the eighth inning. The crowd of 561 gave him an ovation after his triple.

Cade Martinez contributed with a solo home run and a two-run double, while Gage Mestas reached base three times and drove in two more runs late. Christian Garcia earned the win out of relief for San Diego, while Caleb Sebek, Chaz McRoberts, and Logan Piper combined to pitch scoreless innings to close out the game.

San Diego will continue its three-game series against Loyola Marymount on Friday night at Fowler Park.
