Justin Pretre to open Cal’s track season at Boston University meet

California Golden Bears junior Justin Pretre will begin the 2025-26 indoor track and field season by competing at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. The event, hosted by Boston University at its Track & Tennis Center, is set for Saturday. Pretre will participate in the 3000m Open section, which features 155 other athletes. The race is scheduled to start at 10:40 a.m. PT/1:40 p.m. ET.

The meet will be available via streaming on FloTrack, which requires a subscription, and live results can be found through Lancer Timing.

Pretre recently completed a successful cross country season. He was named ACC Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week after finishing first in the 8k for his second consecutive meet, achieving a personal record of 23:14.3 at the Kim Duyst Twillight Invitational. In November, he improved his 10k best to 30:36.5 at the NCAA West Regionals.

Throughout his collegiate career with Cal, Pretre has secured spots on four of the program’s top-10 lists. He holds No. 4 rankings in the indoor mile (3:59.34), indoor 3000m (7:53.44), and distance medley relay (9:32.81). Additionally, he is eighth on Cal’s all-time list for the 1500m with a time of 3:42.72.

After his freshman year, Pretre represented Canada at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships following his victory in Canada’s U20 1500m championship with a time of 3:53.89.
